Instructions for using the Stanley family of jump starters:
Jump Starter Model J5c09 Me User Manual Free
Using a Stanley jump starter is very easy. These devices are automatic so one they are connected to the dead battery they know what to do and how to do it. When you first bring your Stanley jump starter home you are going to need to plug it into an electrical outlet and let it charge for twelve continuous hours before you can use the device. This allows the internal battery to receive a full charge. Not following this charging step can reduce the number of amp hours the device can provide between charges.
The following steps should be followed when connecting jump starters.
- Place the vehicle you need to jump start in park.
- Open the hood to the vehicle
- Find the battery under the hood and inspect the battery terminals for corrosion. You can have a battery that has terminals and posts on the top of the battery, and some batteries have terminals on the side of the battery. You may have to remove a plastic cover that is over the battery posts. These covers are to protect the post from corrosion so you want to replace them after you crank your engine.
- Check to see which battery terminal is positive and which terminal is negative. There should be a plus or minus sign close to the post to indicate plus for positive and minus for negative.
- Get your jump starter out of your trunk and make sure the jump starter is turned off before attempting to connect.
- Connect the alligator clip of the positive cable on the jump starter to the positive terminal on the battery.
- Connect the alligator clip on the negative cable of the jump starter to the negative terminal of your battery.
- Wiggle the alligator clips slightly as you connect them to make sure they are making a good connection with the battery post.
- Turn the jump starter on by pushing the power button.
- Give the jump starter three to five minutes to provide the dead battery with a surge of power.
- Crank your engine by turning the ignition key.
- Once the car cranks disconnect the jump starter by turning off the power to the starter, then disconnect the cables, starting with the positive cable first. Place the jump starter back into your trunk, and close the hood of your car.
- If you did not leave a radio playing or a light on that could drain your battery then you are advised to go to a mechanic shop and have someone test your car battery to see why it went dead on you.
